Our Pastor
Msgr. John V. Boland

    John Vincent Boland was born July 20, 1941, to John and Nora Boland in Eyercourt, County Galway, Ireland. He has two brothers, Msgr. Eugene M. Boland, pastor of St. James Church in Totowa, and Eamon Boland who is married to Mae and has four children; they live in County Kilkenny, Ireland.

    Fr. Boland attended primary school in Eyercourt and high school at Garbally Park, in Ballinasloe, County Galway. He attended college at St. Patrick's College, Carlow, and was ordained at St. Patrick's Seminary, Carlow, Ireland, in June 1965. He has a masters degree in educational administration from Fordham University, NYC, in 1975.

    As a priest of the Diocese of Paterson, Fr. Boland served as Parochial Vicar in Our Lady of Magnificat, Kinnelon, NJ. He was a member of the Theology Department at DePaul High School in Wayne, NJ, from 1965 to 1969. During his tenure at Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, NJ, from 1969 to 1979, he served as theology teacher, vice-principal and principal.

    In 1979 he became founding pastor of St. Francis de Sales in Vernon, NJ, where he presently serves. As a priest, he has ministered in various capacities, among them:
Diocesan Board of Consultors, Diocesan Finance Committee, Diocesan Personnel Board, Diocesan Pastoral Council, and Episcopal Vicar of Sussex County. He was honored by Pope John Paul with the title of Monsignor.
