Fr. Larry deepens Stewardship awareness |
|
"We Are Family", the 1979 hit by Sister Sledge, could have been the theme song for the Stewardship seminar presented by Father Larry Evans in the parish social hall on October 10. He reminded us that we are all members of the St. Francis de Sales family and as such we each have responsibilities to the members of our family. He also impressed upon us that the treasures we have are to be shared with others in the family.
Father Evans used the unusual technique of asking participants to dig in a bucket of mud to find a "treasure". Once all had found their "treasure", they were then asked to bless it and give it away to make the point that our treasures, our gifts from God, are not ours to keep.
Father Evens shared some of the same information with all attending Masses over the weekend and added joyful song and even a little dancing to his presentation. He also spoke to the parish youth on Sunday afternoon. All those benefiting from Father Evens visit to our family at St. Francis are grateful that he shared his treasure and time with us. |

Parish Youth Put Stewardship in Action |
|
A group of students in the Confirmation Prep program are working on their service project - making "Anti-Ouch" pillows. The pillow design was originated by a breast cancer survivor to relieve some of the pressure and pain experienced during post surgery recovery. Not only does this activity help the students fulfill their confirmation requirements but it also allows them the opportunity to partake in a stewardship way of life - using their time, talent, and resources to help someone in need. They will be making over 100 pillows to be distributed to the Sparta Cancer Center - Breast Cancer Support Group.

Women's Retreat (Oct.23-25) - Achieving Peace |
|
Although the weather was not the greatest this weekend, the annual St. Francis de Sales women's retreat was. Women of the parish joined for a weekend of fellowship, prayer and meditation, spiritual talks led by Fr. Angelus Croce followed by group discussions. All left the retreat refreshed and a little more peaceful.

Stewardship Family Fun Day |
|
Stewardship renewal is upon us again. In preparation for making our stewardship commitment, St. Francis de Sales, once again, hosted a Stewardship Family Fun Day. The point of this gathering is to promote hospitality and "fun" for our parish family as well as making available information regarding all the many ministries. Once again, the event was a huge success. The theme for the day was "Passport to Salvation" and centered on the many interesting places around the world where there have been apparitions and miracles. Many countries from across the globe were represented along with their music and samplings of a variety of ethnic snacks. As in the past, there was food and drinks, games, activities, and some great prizes. Commitment to minsitry will be spotlighted over the next couple of weeks at Mass, however, signup for ministry is always available during the entire year in case you cannot commit at the present time.
